Alex Ziskind built a $60,000 local cluster using Mac Studios running Kimi K3, an open model, and compared it against a cloud-based AI agent on identical coding tasks.
The local cluster completed the job in four hours while the cloud agent finished in 15 minutes, demonstrating a substantial speed advantage for cloud computing.
Local AI clusters retain advantages for handling private data and giving users direct control, but remain slower than cloud solutions for this type of work.
